Museum of Ethnography

The Museum of Ethnography is one of the most interesting museums in Budapest, especially after it received its new building in the City Park in Budapest. The building is an architectural wonder, meaning that you should come here even if you don’t plan to visit the actual museum. You can enjoy a wonderful view from both sides of the museum, and it is one of the nicest modern buildings in all of Hungary.

The museum’s permanent exhibition is called “Traditional Culture of the Hungarians.” Here you get to see how the life of the Hungarians was from the end of the 18th century until the breakout of the First World War. The museum lets you experience a bridal trousseau of a girl from Kalotaszentkirály and the church wedding of a couple from Kalotaszeg, presented in their actual settings. You will be shown folk art, folk customs and be introduced to life in the village and in the city. The museum has multimedia stations where you can see and learn even more, and there are always temporary exhibitions in addition to permanent ones.

The museum moved to its present location in 2022. Until then, it was found opposite the Hungarian Parliament.
