Hortobágy National Park - the Puszta The Hortobágy National Park was declared nation park in 1973, and was given a place on the World Heritage list in 1999. It is Hungary's largest protected area, and the largest natural grassland in Europe. It also administers the country's most important collection of classical Hungarian style folk buildings. The most famous landmark is the 167 metre long, nine-arched, stone bridge designed by Ferenc Polvony. You can also visit the Shepherd's museum, originally a resting post for carts at the end of the 17th century. There is a hotel, Hotel Epona in the area, which can house guests. From here you can also take guided bus trips in the area. During the summer you can also see different shows and parades with animals in the national park. Many people come to Hungary and want to see "Puszta", but do not know where to go. Not anymore! If you come to the Hortobágy National Park, you have visited and seen the puszta.
