The Lake Balaton is the largest one in Central Europe. Due to the fact that Hungary has not sea, Balaton is extremly popular among the Hungarians, but also among tourists, especially germans. The water in the lake is not deep, so it is very familyfriendly. On the southern side you can find the city Siofok, which is the party capital of Balaton. Here you can find many hotels and great life in the summer time.
Bicycle trip:
You can now find a bicycle road around the entire lake. The length is around 200 kilometres, and you can either do it in one day, or you can go a little length every day, and then within 3-4-5 days you have travelled around it all. A suggested route could be:
1st day – Siófok to Balatonfüred
2nd day – Balatonalmádi to Heviz or Keszthely
3rd day – Heviz to Balatonboglár
4th day – Balatonboglár to Siófok.
Balatonboglar is a little bit more towards the south, and if you visit Balaton by the summer, this might be a place to visit. Every year they arrange the Balatonboglar days, and here they taste the wines they have produced that year, there are concerts and lots of life. Also close to Lake Balaton is Heviz, famous for its healing lake.
To get to Balaton you can go with train, or with bus, or you can fly to the Balaton Airport at Sármellek (Ryan Air flies to that airport).
