Tihany is a village on the northern side of Lake Balaton, not far from Balatonfüred. This is an old-fashioned Hungarian village, and one of the most popular places to visit among tourists visiting the Balaton area.
The symbol of Tihany is the Benedictine Abbey, which was founded in 1055 AD by Andrew I. The church as we see it today was built in baroque style in 1754. In addition to the abbey, Tihany is known for its “echo”, its Hungarian restaurants, its cosy shops, and its beautiful view towards Lake Balaton. No wonder why tourists come to spend some hours here while in Hungary.
An interesting information
Tihany’s inhabitants have the highest per capita income in Hungary, and if you want to buy a house, this is the most expensive place in Hungary to do so (according to an article quoted by Wikipedia)!
