Lumina Park

Lumina Park is a magical world full of illuminated decorations and buildings. It offers a fairy tale walk that will bring some light into a dark season (autumn/winter). The project first launched in Poland and has now arrived in Budapest where it was first arranged in 2022/23. Lumina Park Budapest is arranged at Palatinus Beach, romantically located at Margaret Island.

Budapest is known for its beautiful buildings. As you walk along the Danube at night (or enjoy a boat trip on the Danube), you can witness the true beauty of the city while looking at the beautiful Chain Bridge, the Parliament, the Castle, the Fishermen’s Bastion, the Gellert statue, the other bridges, the National Theater, and many other buildings. But, if you come between the end of October and early March, you can enjoy even more lights if you visit the Lumina Park at Margaret Island.

Lumina Park opens in the evening (when it gets dark), meaning that it varies between 16:30 and 18:00 (depending on when you decide to visit the park). The last time for entry to the park on any given day is 20:00.

As you walk inside the park, you can see beautiful buildings, animals, characters, and more that will make you marvel. Below you can see some pictures from the first Lumina Park ever arranged in Budapest.

All pictures originate from the official website of Lumina Park Budapest. The exhibition changes every year, meaning that you will not see these objects (which were exhibited in 2022/23) if you decide to visit Lumina Park this year.

Margaret Island is a fantastic location in Budapest worth visiting for all tourists coming to Budapest. It is a quiet location without traffic where you can walk for hours, go for a run, get a SPA treatment in a hotel, or just bring a book to relax and enjoy life.

Lumina Park 2023-24

Dates: October 19, 2023 – March 4, 2024
Location: Palatinus, Margaret Island

How much does it cost to visit Lumina Park in Budapest?

It is cheaper to visit the park on weekdays than during weekends. The entrance fee for an adult varies between 4000 and 4500 HUF. There are family tickets available for families deciding to visit the park together.

Can I bring my dog to Lumina Park?

Even though Margaret Island is a perfect place to walk your dog, you are not allowed to bring the dog to Lumina Park. This is, most likely, because dogs might cause harm to the decorations within the park.

How much do I need to walk in the park?

If you walk around the entire park at the recommended route you will walk approximately 1,5km. Depending on how many photos you take and how fast you walk, you will most likely spend 1-2 hours in the park.

How can I get to Lumina Park?

The easiest way to get to the park is by using bus number 26 which leaves from Nyugati Palyaudvar and Arpad Hid. This stops by the entrance to Palatinus. If you arrive by car, there are some parking lots available at Margaret Island by the Grand Hotel Margitsziget, but these are limited. It is also possible to travel by tram 4 and 6 to the stop at the middle of the Margaret Bridge and walk from there.

Can I buy something to eat and drink in the park?

It can get quite cold in October, November, December, January, and February in Budapest. As a result, it is nice to know that there are stalls in the park where you can buy hot drinks and small snacks to enjoy while looking at the wonders of the park.
