Currency converter (HUF/EUR/USD)

Earlier this spring we updated our pages almost daily with news concerning the Forint, as it reach record bottom levels. Since then it has stabilized, and it is normally to be found that 1 Euro is around 270 Forint. 1 Dollar is normally around 185 Forint.

The good news is that we have found an online currency converter which we could add to our homepage, so if you go check out our currency page which contains advices, tips and information about the Hungarian currency, changing of money etc, you can also find an online currency converter at the bottom of the page. Hope it will prove useful, I do like it a lot myself at least (especially useful that it automaticly shows the value of 1 Euro in Forints)!

Palinka and Sausage Festival this weekend

Pálinka
Pálinka

Budapest is simply a festival town. There is always something going on, and when one festival is finished, another starts. Not long ago there was some small Pálinka Festival by the Danube on the Pest side, before that visitors could participate in the Wine Festival located in the Castle Area… And then you have the Autumn Festival and we could keep on writing!

Whats important now, is that starting this Thursday and keeping it up till Sunday people in Budapest can visit the Pálinka and Sausage festival in the Castle area. The Hungarian sausages are not very famous, but many claim that they taste just as good as Mortadella, Tyrolean and Viennese sausages.

The Pálinka is a real Hungaricum, protected by law since 2004, and you are only allowed to call the drink Pálinka if produced according to strict laws and rules.  Below you can see some of them:

1. it has to be made 100-percent from fruits or herbs indigenous to the Carpathian Basin and grown in Hungary, or from pomace grown in Hungary, and does not contain any additives,
2. it has to be produced and bottled in Hungary,
3. it has to have an alcohol content between 37,5% and 86% ABV.

So if this sounds interesting, check it out. You can read more about the entrance fees and about the festival at our Palinka and Sausage Festival page.

Hard Rock Cafe in Budapest 2010?

I often get the question if Hard Rock Cafe can be found in Budapest. The answer has so far been no, and it will probably be so for a year more, at least. Starbucks also planned for a long time to open in Budapest, and in 2010 they finally managed to do so. Anyway, out searching today I found a page claiming that Hard Rock Cafe might come to Budapest fall 2010 (fall 2010: this has not yet happened). At HardRock.com there is a list of “coming soon” Hard Rock Cafes, and at the bottom of the list Budapest can be found.

So far we only have Hard Rock Cafe on t-shirts in Budapest, but it would be great to be able to visit and see the real things, so lets hope – and time will show!
