Zoo expanding into Vidam Park

Zoo Budapest
Zoo Budapest
November 12th, 2008, we wrote about the fact that Budapest Zoo will expand into Vidám Park (the Amusement Park), and because of this the Vidám Park will be moved to another location. Since then not so much has happened, but now we can start to see the start of this process taking place. Parts of the Vidám Park are currently used by the Zoo and the expansion is probably to continue until the entire area is used by the zoo.

One of the reasons for this is the fact that the Vidám Park is doing terrible (it has big financial problems), so the question is then only if it will be able to reopen somewhere else alter, or if it is headed towards a final end!

The arrangers of popular festivals such as Balaton Sound, Sziget Festival and the Volt Festival will now make a two-day festival in Budapest called Stargarden. The event will take place in the big garden next to Puskas Ferenc Stadium and they have managed to get some really hot shot names for the festival premiere in 2010, namely Deep Purple and Omega.

Much more information can be found about the festival at our dedicated Stargarden page.

Robert Pattinson in Budapest

Robert Pattinson Budapest

It might be that you have not noticed it, but we have for sure noticed that Robert Pattinson is in town. Last Sunday during a guided tour we suddenly had to drive somewhere else, as the Andrassy Avenue betweeen Deak Square and Oktogon was closed down due to filming. At that I time I did not know who was there, but later I saw on television that Robert Pattinson was there recording scenes to a new film named Bel Ami. Who is Robert Pattinson? The main character from the incredibly popular Twilight films.

The recording will last for ten more days or something, and soon Uma Thurman is coming to Budapest as well, so if you would like to see either of them live, this is your chance in Budapest. The film Bel Ami is set for cinemas in 2011.

According to RTL Klub the reason for recording the film in Budapest was the cheap costs, renting the Andrassy Avenue for a day only costed 2,5 million forints.

At a clip I saw this morning of Robert Pattinson coming out from his hotel, it could easily be seen that he is living on Grand Hotel Royal, so if you would like to see him, maybe you should start there!
