Fish Festival in Budapest 2015

Fish festival BudapestThis will be the third time the Fish Festival (Budapesti Halfesztivál) will be held again in Budapest and it is the perfect time to try the best Hungarian dishes with fish.

This year the festival will take place in the end of February when Torkos Csütörtök will be held as well. The festival presents the different types of fishes living in the various lakes and rivers in Hungary such as the fish from the Danube, Tisza, lake Balaton and so on.

The festival mostly focuses on the traditional Hungarian specialties but at the festival visitors also have the chance to try several different international dishes with fish as well. At the festival visitors can try the traditional Hungarian fish soup (halászlé) but there will be sushi, Russian caviar, French fish soup and English fish and chips as well. Apart from the most delicious fish plenty of various programs and activities are waiting for the visitors at the festival.

This year the third Fish Festival will take place in Budapest at Vajdahunyadvár from 19th February to 22nd February in 2015. The entrance for the festival is free for everyone.

Torkos Csütörtök 2015 in Budapest

‘Torkos Csütörtök’, also known as Gluttonous Thursday, will be held again this year not only in Budapest but in several other Hungarian cities as well. What is it about? When is it arranged?

The ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ first was held in 2006 and it got so popular over the years that it grew it self out to one of the most popular events in the whole country. The ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ is a gastronomical event which is part of the carnival season of Hungary and it has a long history which has been always part of the Hungarian traditions. At this event several restaurants take part and it is a perfect opportunity to try the best restaurants in the city. All the participant restaurants offers their dishes for 50% on this special day. As it one of the most popular events in the city you should book your tables as soon as it possible because the restaurants quickly get full. As in the last few years over 1000 restaurants will take place in this event this year as well so there are many possibilities to choose from and it is also a perfect time to try new restaurants and new dishes as well.

This year the ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ will be held 19th February 2015 in various restaurants in the whole country. There are no list of the participant restaurants yet, but in general lots of restaurants are taking part in this event, except from Trofea Grill, Michelin restaurants and some of the other restaurants that are fully booked every evening anyway!

This is one of the biggest cultural festival in the life of the city and at the festival various concerts, opera, ballet and various dance performances will be shown. Another awaited festival in Budapest is the Sziget Fesztvál which is one of the most popular festivals in Europe. Every year thousands of people comes to Hungary to be part of it. Sziget is held every year in the first weeks of August and this year the festival will be held from 10th August until 17th August in 2015.

As the autumn arrives it is time for the annual wine festival, normally arranged in the middle of September, and following this it is time for chocolate and sweets festival, Palinka festival and lots of other festivals, both small and large. Then in the end of November it is again time for the annual Christmas market, so get ready, because there are lots of goodies waiting for you in Budapest!

Volt Festival 2015

Volt FestivalVolt Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Hungary which takes place in the beginning of summer every year since 1993.

Volt Festival is always held in Sopron which is a city really close to the Austrian border. The festival is held in the first week of July and it will be like this in 2015 as well. At the festival several music genres are represented from rock through hip-hop, jazz to electronic music. Apart from the countless concerts at the festival there are other programs and cultural event as well. The next year’s programs, artists and musicians are not fully settled yet but there are already some news on the programs and concerts.

So far in 2015 visitors can enjoy the concerts of John Newman, Parkway Drive, Rise Against, Motörhead, Parov Stelar Band, Lilly Wood & The Prick and Àkos (Ákos is a Hungarian singer). 2014’s most popular bands and performances were the Arctic Monkeys, Icona Pop, Hurts, 30 Seconds To Mars, MGMT, Woodkid and so on. At Volt Festival you will have the chance to get to know the most popular Hungarian bands as well.

Next year, in 2015 Volt Festival will be held from 1st July in 2015 until 4th July in 2015 in Sopron, Hungary.

Which is the best beer in Hungary?

The most typical and well known Hungarian beer is Arany Ászok which was first produced in 1924. It is one of the cheapest beers you can get in the stores and in the pubs as well. Arany Ászok is a pilsener style lager, the colour of the beer is really clear and golden brown. The taste of the beer is a little bitter and it has a weak flavour and the alcohol content of the beer is 4.3%. The other famous Hungarian beer is Soproni which has different flavours (lemon, cherry so on). It is also a pilsener style beer and just like Arany Ászok it also has a golden brown colour but its alcohol content is 4.5%. Borsodi Világos is the third most popular Hungarian beer in Hungary. Borsodi was first produced in 1973 in the Northern part of the country. It is also a pilsner style light beer with 4.6% alcohol content like most of the beers produced in Hungary. Borsodi also comes in different flavours nowadays, the most popular flavour is lemon after the original taste. All of these beverages are typical Hungarian beers which you can easily buy any of the the stores or pubs in Hungary usually for really cheap.

2014 European Women’s Handball Championship

Euro 2014 HandballThis year in 2014 the European Women’s Handball Championships will be held again. It will be the 11th time the international handball tournament for women’s national team will be organised by the European Handball Federation, and this time it will be arranged in Hungary and Croatia.

The European Handball Federation, the EHF is the umbrella organisation for women handball in Europe. The organisation was founded in November in 1991 and the head of the organisation is based in the capital of Austria in Vienna. The European Handball Federation has 50 members such as Albania, Andorra, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, Norway, Holland, Spain, Switzerland and so on and two associated federation England and Scotland as well. The organisation was founded in November 1991 in the capital of Germany in Berlin. The organisation is responsible for the different tournaments in Europe and it organised the Men’s and Women’s Handball Championship as well.

The EHF is also responsible for beach handball and to expand the attraction of handball in schools apart from organising the world championships and tournaments. This year the European Women’s Handball Championship will take place in December. The two hosting countries will be Hungary and Croatia in this year. The international tournament will be held from 7th December in 2014 until 21st December in 2014. 16 teams will be presented at the European Championship.

The games will take place in the Hungarian capital in Budapest and in two smaller Hungarian cities Györ and Debrecen. In Croatia the games will be held also in the capital, in Zagreb and in two smaller cities in Croatia, in Varaždin and Osijek. In Budapest the games will take place at Papp László Budapest Sportaréna which has the capacity of 12500 persons, in Györ it will be at Audi Arena with the capacity of 5000 persons and in Debrecen at Fönix Hall with the capacity of 8500 people. In Croatia, in Zagreb the games will be held at Arena Zagreb which hosts around 15200 people, at Varaždin Arena where around 5200 people can gather and at Gradski vrt Hall which can host around 3500 persons.

European Championship groups

In group A there will be Hungary, Spain, Russia and Poland, in group B will be Norway, Denmark, Romania and Ukraine, group C will include Sweden, Germany, Croatia and the Netherlands and group D will be Montenegro, France, Serbia and Slovakia. The first game of the 2014 European Women’s Handball Championship will be held 7th December in 2014 at Audi Arèna in Györ in Hungary. The game will start at 18.00 in the evening.

During the final weekend matches will be played in Budapest, in the Budapest Sportarena. This is a full day trip starting from Budapest at around 9.30 and we expect to return around 17.00. This is the perfect trip if you want to buy some good wine for Christmas, or simply see another Hungarian city and its Christmas market.

This is an amazing chance to get to visit the countryside of Hungary, and to visit one of the most famous of all Hungarian wine regions, Eger. The city is located 130km away from Budapest and here you will visit one of the most famous vineyards in town, and there you will taste 6 different wines.

Water Polo championship in Budapest

Starting today and lasting until July 27th the European Water Polo championship will be arranged in Budapest at the Margaret Island.

The best nations in Europe will gather together for this tournament, and of course Hungary will be present both among the women and among the men. Luckily we are better in Water Polo than in football, so the Hungarians will have the chance to win the European Championship, both among the men and the women.

The venue for the Water Polo championship will be the Hajos Alfred pool at the Margaret Island. If you want to check out the matches, visit the eventim.hu and buy your tickets there. Akvarium

Akvarium is the most central and easy to find pub in Budapest. It is located by Erzsebet tér/Deák Ferenc tér. That is where three of the metro lines meet up, and in a way the most central spot in town. Here you can find tons of people from early evening until early morning, and a great place to watch the World Cup.

Szabadsag ter

At the Liberty Square you can also watch the World Cup. Here you can have a nice drink, eat some food and watch the games together with hundreds of other people at one of the nicest squares in Budapest, not far from the Hungarian Parliament.

Holdudvar

If you relax on the Margaret Island then you will not even have to leave the island to watch the World Cup. If you visit Holdudvar you can watch the matches on big screens and of course enjoy some food and drinks while watching the match.

Millenaris

If you want to stay on the Buda side of Budapest, then visit the Millenaris Park. That park is beautiful and it is located near the Mammut shopping center. A great and peaceful place to watch the World Cup.
