The first trolley bus coming to Budapest after Second World War

I do love historical Budapest pictures, so I thought I’d share a great picture I found on Fortepan earlier today.

On this picture you can see the first trolley bus coming to Budapest after Second World War, of course providing by the communists, bringing honor and glory to their leader.

[stextbox id=”info” caption=”What I find interesting”]What is interesting is that the bus in itself doesn’t look that old fashioned at all, at least not if you compare it with the trolley buses traveling around in Budapest today…[/stextbox]

Budapest flood pictures 2013

The flood has reached its top level and the water levels are now decreasing. Here you can see some pictures made during the last days giving you a little impression what it has looked like along the Danube the last days.

If you are coming to Budapest in the coming days, you might be interested in reading about the flood and its impact on tourism before continuing.

The air went out of the balloons

For those who have been to Budapest several times, and for us who live here, the two clown balloons outside the Hungarian State Circus has served as a symbol of the circus itself. A month ago or something as I drove past the circus during a guided tour I though noticed that big changes were about to take place… First the air was taken out of the clowns, and then they were removed (for good)!

It can not be considered a tragedy as the clowns did not look to nice (the building doesn’t look to nice either), but still our dear and belowed clown balloon friends has been removed. Would you like to see the before – during – after pictures? Here you go!

Budapest Fireworks 2010 Video

This years fireworks might not have been the best ever, but considering the fact that it for a long time looked as if there would be no fireworks at all, it was very nice. Below you can see a two minute video giving our visitors a taste of what the fireworks in Budapest August 20th 2010 were like.

Some pictures from Pannonhalma and Hollókő

The summer is a great time for excursions in Hungary! Many Hungarians travel towards Lake Balaton to spend their summer holiday there, while others travel around to visit cities and areas they have never seen before.

One kind of tourists are those so called “World Heritage” tourists. They check out every single World Heritage site in a nation, and then travel on to check out more in other nations. If you are interested in World Heritage sites, then you have 8 places to visit in Hungary: (by clicking on the links you will leave our Budapest Guide, and move on to our Hungary Guide)

  • Budapest
  • Caves of Aggtelek Karst
  • Fertö Cultural Landscape
  • Hortobágy National Park
  • Necropolis of Pécs
  • Old Village of Hollókö
  • Pannonhalma
  • Tokaj Wine Region

We have recently posted pictures from Hollókő and Pannonhalma on our Facebook profile, but under this text you can see some of these pictures here as well! You can see more pictures from Pannonhalma and Hollókő by visiting the Hungary Guide.

Some pictures from Szentendre

Last week during a half-day excursion to Szentendre we just made some pictures. They needed to use sandbags to protect the city from the Danube, and though it worked, they still had big trouble with ground water. During the excursion we visited a wine cellar. The water of course didn’t reach the building, but due to much water in the ground, the cellar still was “attacked” by water and work was being done getting the water out as we were there tasting the delicious Hungarian wines! The guests didn’t mind, in fact the truly enjoyed both the wine cellar, the guided tour inside it, and of course the wine!
