Congratulations to Metz on winning the EHF Final 4 in Budapest this year!

While, as a Hungarian, it would have been sweeter to see Győr take the trophy, we must also admit that it is fantastic for the sport to see different teams and countries claim the victory. A huge congratulations to all of France for this amazing achievement.

It certainly seems like Budapest is becoming a lucky city for the French. First, PSG won the Champions League, and now Metz has claimed the Women’s EHF Champions League title right here in the Hungarian capital.

What an incredible time to be in the Hungarian capital! The UEFA Champions League final just finished, and it was a truly massive event that brought an electric atmosphere to the streets of Budapest. It was a fantastic final to witness live, even though Arsenal played a quite defensive game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. But if you think the sporting fun is over in this beautiful city, think again. The adrenaline is still pumping, and Budapest is ready to play host to yet another elite European tournament.

Even though the overall size and global media attention of the event cannot be directly compared to the men’s football Champions League final, handball fans know exactly where the real excitement is heading next. The highly anticipated EHF Final 4—the absolute pinnacle of the Women’s Champions League in handball—will be arranged in Budapest this upcoming weekend! It is a fast-paced, high-scoring, and incredibly intense tournament that promises an unbeatable weekend for anyone visiting the city. For more details on the event, ticketing, and atmosphere, you can check out the EHF Final 4 guide.

Four Matches, One Action-Packed Ticket

Below you can see exactly how the drama will unfold over two intense days. The entire tournament is structured so that a single ticket unlocks access to all four matches. Here is the full schedule breakdown according to the tournament details shown in the image:

Saturday, 6 June 2026 – Semi-finals

15:00 (CEST): Metz Handball (FRA) vs CSM Bucuresti (ROU)

18:00 (CEST): Brest Bretagne Handball (FRA) vs Györi Audi ETO KC (HUN)

Sunday, 7 June 2026 – Finals

15:00 (CEST): 3rd place match (Runner-up Semi-final 1 vs Runner-up Semi-final 2)

18:00 (CEST): The Final (Winner Semi-final 1 vs Winner Semi-final 2)

Who Are the Favorites?

The competition this year is fierce, but the local Hungarian crowd already knows exactly who they are rooting for. The absolute favorites to lift the trophy have to be the powerhouse team Győri Audi ETO KC from Hungary! Playing on what is essentially home soil, the Hungarian fans are expected to turn the stadium into a roaring sea of green and white. However, they face steep competition right out of the gate from French giants Brest Bretagne Handball in the semi-finals, while Metz and Bucharest will battle out an equally volatile opening match.

Finding Accommodation Near the Venue

The entire tournament will take place at the state-of-the-art MVM Dome, which is famously located just next to the iconic football stadium, Groupama Arena. This sports hub is highly accessible from the city center via public transport, making it an ideal area to base yourself during your trip.

Wanna book a hotel near the venue? Zoom in and out and find a great hotel or accommodation using the interactive map below:

The finals of the Champions League in handball for women is held in Budapest every year. It is a fantastic weekend with the four best handball teams in Europe competing for the trophy. It is located along the main road connecting Budapest Airport with the city center, close to Groupama Arena (where the best Hungarian football team named Ferencváros plays their matches).

The European Championship in Handball is currently arranged in Austria, Sweden, and Norway, and the Hungarians surprised us all and won their initial group. That was a giant surprise, especially considering that they have to play against the Danes, the team considered to be the best in the world currently.

After the initial stage, Hungary went on to the next stage in the tournament together with Iceland. The Danes were left behind together with the Russian team. The Hungarians have played very well, far better than expected, and especially the second half against Iceland during the group stage was magical. But, can they keep the tempo up in the upcoming matches?

Picture made by: Nebojsa Tejic / kolektiff (Source: https://men2020.ehf-euro.com/ )

On January 17th, Hungary will play against Norway

Norway has been an awesome team so far in the tournament, and they have gotten to the final in several large tournaments recently (however, they never managed to actually win the final). Sander Sagosen is the big star of the team, but they have highly-skilled players at all positions. The way we see it, this is probably the toughest of all the matches during the upcoming stage of the European Championship in handball!

On January 19th, Hungary will play against Slovenia

Slovenia has been a big surprise themselves so far in the tournament, but how they will enter this match will in large also depend on their result as they play against Portugal on January 17th.

On January 21st, Hungary will play against Sweden

Handball has been greatly influenced by the Scandinavian nations, and this will be the third Scandinavian nation against which Hungary will play in the tournament.

On January 22nd, Hungary will play against Portugal

This will be a tough one, not because of the incredible skills of the Portuguese team, but because the Hungarians will not have a rest-day in front of the match. Well, neither will Portugal, but it will still create a large pressure upon the players who will for sure be tired by then after playing so many matches in such a short time.

Picture made by Anze Malovrh / kolektiffimages (Source: https://men2020.ehf-euro.com/ )

Can Hungary make it to the semi-final?

Hungary has a little advantage considering that they enter the group stage with two points already. These might be very useful when things get tight. However, if the Hungarians can keep up the fighting from the earlier matches, and if they manage to keep their heads calm, this team might make it to the semi-finals. It would for sure be considered a major surprise to everyone if they do, but there is one thing we can know for sure, the Hungarians will be cheering for their team with everything they have!

If you want to cheer for the Hungarians or simply watch the matches online, check the following streaming guide or the following YouTube video for further information!

Are you looking for a place to watch the matches from the European Championship in Handball in Hungary? If you live in a hotel or an apartment with a TV, then look for the channel Sport1. They broadcast all the Hungarian matches and quite a lot of other matches as well.

Another option is to find a sports pub or bar, and they will for sure stream all the matches in which the Hungarian team is involved!
