Budapest is well known for their beautiful Christmas Market with an incredible atmosphere at the Vörösmarty Tér in Budapest. Though it is not a big one, it still has a magical atmosphere and lots of good food. When it comes to Easter many people visit Schönbrunn in Vienna for the annual Easter market there, but Budapest has never been known for any special Easter market.
But, maybe things are changing? The fact is that the lights and the evenings are what makes the Christmas markets especially great, so Easter is not the ideal time at all, as it is bright for too long time. Still, currently there is a market at the Vörösmarty Tér available, so if you come to Budapest for Easter and would like to visit a kind of an Easter Market, why not visit the Vörösmarty Tér? At the square you can find traditional food, chimney cakes, handicraft and other goods always available on such markets, and you can grab something to eat in Gerbeaud or Hard Rock Cafe if you get fed up with what’s going on at the square.
The market at the Vörösmarty Tér is officially named “Spring Fair on Vörösmarty Square” and will be open until the 9th of April. You can easily get to this market using the underground/metro. The Vörösmarty Tér is the endstadtion on the yellow metro line, the second oldest metro line in all of Europe, an attraction in itself.
If you are looking for a smaller market/fair, you will also find a similar Easter/Spring market next to the Allee Shopping Center on the Buda side, next to the end station of tram number 4. Here you can buy handmade clothes, bags, wallets, Palinka, wine, chimney cakes and other small stuff.
