Until 1873 Budapest did not exist, only Buda and Pest. But, in that year they decided to make them one, and Budapest was a fact. The tourism experienced a giant boom, and hotels, coffee houses and restaurants were built in high tempo. But wouldn’t the city need a magnificent opera as well? Of course they did! Miklos Ybl designed the State Opera that was finished in 1884. Many famous people have been in the opera building, one of them is Giacomo Puccini. It is said to have one of the best acoustics in Europe!
If you do not want to really go to the opera, there is still possible to visit the Hungarian State Opera on one of the guided tours every day. These normally start at 14.00, 15.00 and 16.00. If you want to visit another opera building frequently visited by Puccini, then you can read more about the Opera in Rome here.
