New bomb found in Budapest

Two weeks ago several thousand people had to move out of their homes for quite some hours because they found a bomb in the 13. district of Budapest. Yesterday evening they found an even bigger one (the bomb has a weight of more than two tonns), so today the police is working with getting 16.000 people to leave their homes in the 9. district of Budapest. This is for their own security, in case the disarming of the bomb will not be successful. The bomb was found on the corner by the Vaskapu street and the Tóth Kálmán street.

All the people in the area have not left their homes yet, therefore they have not yet started working with the disarming of the bomb. People have been sent to different places while waiting for something to happen, and almost 500 people could be found in the Orczy Park around 16.00 according to the Hungarian newspaper Népszabadság.

Because of this it can become quite heavy traffic jams this evening and until all the closed roads in the 9. district will be opened again.

A new restaurant has been added – Pesti Lámpás

We have just added a new restaurant to our register of restaurants in Budapest. The Pesti Lámpás is located between the Ferenciek Square and the Kalvin Square in the heart of Budapest, and is a little bit hidden away from the crowds of tourists.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is one of the best in Budapest, and you can enjoy your food outside in the backyard of the building, hidden from the noisy streets.

Read more about Pesti Lámpás at this page, and if you need a table reservation or want to read about other Budapest restaurants just surf around our pages.

The Basilica of Esztergom
The Basilica of Esztergom
Several tourists vist Szentendre during their stay in Budapest, but only a few continue their trip further up along the Danube to Visegrad and Esztergom. To let you all see what you are missing we just publish these four pictures! In Esztergom you can find the third largest basilica in Europe, and the two pictures above is just a joy to see!

Szechényi Termal Bath pictures

One of the best places to be in Budapest is at the Szechényi Termal Bath. This is probably the most famous spa in Budapest, and you can combine inside and outside pools with different treatments. For example the price of a 30 minute massage is 3000 Forints, or approximately 12 Euro.

The other famous bath/spa is the Gellert Bath, in our eyes not as good as the Szechenyi, but it is still worth a visit.

What is also good is that the Szechenyi Bath recently added new lockers to the entire complex, which makes things easier, nicer and improves the entire feeling a lot.

Balaton is getting warmer

We do this more and more often, though our page is meant to be about Budapest only. Earlier we published some pictures from Balaton, earlier this week we wrote about Balaton Sound, and now we though we wanted to tell you that according to the Hungarian news we saw this morning the Lake Balaton already has a temperature of 21 degrees, which means it will be even warmer in some weeks, but still warm enough to swim in already.

So, it might be a good idea to jump on a train or a bus, and enjoy some days outside Budapest this summer as you come to Hungary!

Formula 1 Budapest – F1 Budapest

We have earlier written about the Formula 1 Budapest and now it is time to do it again. The annual Formula 1 competition will be in Budapest from Thursday, July 31st and it will last until Sunday, August 3rd when the big race will be.

This year will be the 20th time the Formula 1 (F1) race is being arranged in Budapest, and the most winning competor is Michael Schumacher, who has won the race four times. Now, as we all know, he is no longer driving, but it will for sure be exciting to see who will win.

If you have not done it already; book your hotel or apartment, grab your Formula 1 tickets, and prepare for a great weekend in Budapest.
