Organ concert in Stephens Basilica

Last year there were organ concerts in St. Anna Church at Batthyány Square every Saturday. In 2010 these concerts have been moved to a fare greater and a much more majestic venue, the Saint Stephens Basilica. This will be a great event for those who would like to hear a great organ, a great singer, in one of Budapests most impressive buildings.

More information and ticket reservation can be done at our “organ concert in Budapest” page. This program can be combined with a dinner cruise at the Danube.

Starbucks to open in Budapest in 2010

I am starting to be fed up a little bit with the rumours about Starbucks coming to Budapest, the rumours of the fact that Starbucks already opened a cafe in West End, and later it turned out that no Starbucks opened at all.

Today, May 6th, a whole lot of Hungarian newspapers reported that Starbucks for sure will come to Budapest in 2010, finally. The international company AmRest Coffee
will be heading the Starbucks coffeeshop in Budapest, and with such a serious company supporting the coming of Starbucks, it might turn into reality, like it has in neighboring countries like Austria and Romania.

Back home with some days delay

For those of you who have read our latest blog additions it is not a secret that I have been stuck in Holland for some days due to the ashes from the volcano at Iceland. Now I have finally returned back home after some 21 hours travelling with OrangeWays from Utrecht to Budapest. It was a nice trip, and from the bus I could see for example the Cologne Cathedral and Schönbrunn in Vienna.

Now it seems as if airtraffic is getting back on track again, which is nice as we have quite some guests coming in with planes in the coming days and many of them combine their airport transfers with guided tours. Welcome to Budapet all of you!

We try to keep the prices down, so if you would be in need of such a transfer back home from Budapest, then please contact us, and we will send you an exact price offer for your destination.

For bigger groups you can contact us as well, but we first of all try to help smaller groups!

Flight cancellations

In Norway domestic flights are back up running, but the weather forecasts makes it possible that from this evening on all flights will be cancelled again. In Hungary and in Budapest cancelled is the word to get used to. The homepage of Budapest Airpot (which is almost impossible to reach due to heavy traffic) now tells that all flights until 12.00 today are cancelled, and after that there are several cancellations as well. Flights heading south from Budapest are still not cancelled this afternoon, and some other flights are not cancelled yet, but stay updated and check out www.bud.hu for the most recent updates.

If you need to travel away from Budapest we recommend the use of Orangeways which is fairly cheap and offers excellent service to travellers. Outside their normal international routes they arranged a bus travelling from Budapest to Vienna, Munich, Augsburg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, Saarbrucken, Metz, Reims and Paris. I am not sure if they will repeat that trip, but check out their homepages for more information.

We wrote Saturday an article called “Stuck in Holland“, and yes, now we are stuck in Holland. Our flight home today is cancelled, but we have already bought bustickets, so tomorrow we will leave back to Budapest by bus!

Budapest by night from Petöfi Bridge

I just made some pictures here the other day as I walked across the Petöfi Bridge in Budapest with my beautiful wife (much more gorgeous than the view from the bridge). Below you can see some of the results. At the pictures you can see the Gellert Hotel, the Gellert Hill, the Elisabeth Bridge and the Castle in the background.

The best way to see all of these by night is doing a boat trip on the Danube, which you can find more information about here.

Symphonical orchestra and organ concert

We have newly created a page called Hungarian programs within our activity category. On this page you can find information about different programs available for tourists in Budapest. So far you can read about a folklore program available almost every evening at 20.00, a classical concert arranged in the Danube Palace and an organ concert arranged in St. Anna Church at the Batthyány Square.

For more information about these events, ticket reservation and more, check out our Hungarian programs page.

Zoo expanding into Vidam Park

Zoo Budapest
Zoo Budapest
November 12th, 2008, we wrote about the fact that Budapest Zoo will expand into Vidám Park (the Amusement Park), and because of this the Vidám Park will be moved to another location. Since then not so much has happened, but now we can start to see the start of this process taking place. Parts of the Vidám Park are currently used by the Zoo and the expansion is probably to continue until the entire area is used by the zoo.

One of the reasons for this is the fact that the Vidám Park is doing terrible (it has big financial problems), so the question is then only if it will be able to reopen somewhere else alter, or if it is headed towards a final end!

Robert Pattinson in Budapest

Robert Pattinson Budapest

It might be that you have not noticed it, but we have for sure noticed that Robert Pattinson is in town. Last Sunday during a guided tour we suddenly had to drive somewhere else, as the Andrassy Avenue betweeen Deak Square and Oktogon was closed down due to filming. At that I time I did not know who was there, but later I saw on television that Robert Pattinson was there recording scenes to a new film named Bel Ami. Who is Robert Pattinson? The main character from the incredibly popular Twilight films.

The recording will last for ten more days or something, and soon Uma Thurman is coming to Budapest as well, so if you would like to see either of them live, this is your chance in Budapest. The film Bel Ami is set for cinemas in 2011.

According to RTL Klub the reason for recording the film in Budapest was the cheap costs, renting the Andrassy Avenue for a day only costed 2,5 million forints.

At a clip I saw this morning of Robert Pattinson coming out from his hotel, it could easily be seen that he is living on Grand Hotel Royal, so if you would like to see him, maybe you should start there!
