Oceans Bar & Grill closing

The best place in Budapest for fresh fish and seafood is about to close. Ocean Bar & Grill wrote in an email that:

“After more than 6 years of bringing the best seafood to Budapest, Ocean bar & grill will be closing down permanently sometime between the end of May and mid June. The reason is simple really. While our many regular customers will be saddened to see the end to Ocean, unfortunately this city is still not quite ready for a quality seafood restaurant.”

For those very sad it is though said that Nobu is coming to Budapest, a luxury sushi chain. They will have their restaurant in Kempinski, and the only question is; if Oceans Bar & Grill had to few customers to stay alive, will there be a market for a much more expensive seafood restaurant?

Time will show 🙂

Norwegians celebrating May 17. in Budapest

May 17. is the Norwegian national day, celebrating the constitution they made in 1814. In Norway all children parade through their cities, and everyone eat ice cream and hot dogs. For the Norwegian students in Budapest that is something they would not want to miss, but since they live in Budapest they arrange something similar to that here. So last Sunday they marched around at Margaret Island singing norwegian songs, eating Hot Dogs and then having a longlasting celebration at Hold Udvar.

What made the celebration even bigger was the fact that Norway won the Eurovision Song Contest the night before!

Below you can see some pictures from the celebration, the Norwegian winner song from the Eurovision Song Contest and the participants at the May 17. celebration singing the Norwegian national song.

Depeche Mode Budapest, 11 January 2010

Depeche Mode Budapest
Depeche Mode Budapest

The Depeche Mode concert this summer has not yet been held, and a new Depeche Mode concert has already been announced in Budapest. Depeche Mode is coming back in 2010, January 11. This summer they will perform at the Puskas Ferenc Stadium, but in January that will probably be quite cold and uncomfortable, so they will move a few meters and perform in the Papp Laszlo Budapest Sportarena instead. This is much smaller, so the tickets will probably fly away for this concert as well.

For more information about the summer concert, go to Depeche Mode Budapest summer 2009.

For tickets to the Depeche Mode concert January 11, 2010, visit WorldTicketShop. The press release tells us that they will not perform the same concert during both Budapest concerts. The stage will be made differently and different songs will be played, so for the biggest fans it might be worth visiting both the concerts.

The concert will start at 20:00.

Warm and beautiful spring in Budapest

The trees are green and the sun is shining! The tourists are coming and they have added new pictures at the wall of the Citadella at the Gellert Hill! The temperatures are between 25-30 Celsius during daytime and life is wonderful. Some days ago it was full moon as well, and we happened to be on the Buda side looking towards the Parliament that evening, so we stopped the car and jumped out and tried to make a nice picture. We are not totally satisfied, but at least we managed to make some pictures 🙂

If you are coming to Budapest be sure to grab hold of one of our guides and join in on an unforgetable guided tour. While you wait and prepare check out the pictures below and the current temperature in Budapest!

Angels & Demons – World Premier in Hungary

Angels & Demons is coming to cinemas around the world, and it will have a world premier in Hungary. Well, that might seem super and it is. The premier will be May 13, and no nations in the world will have premier before that. So that is why we dare to say that the world premier will be in Hungary. Of course several other nations will show the film on May 13 as well, but USA will for example only start showing it in cinemas on the 15th of May. Australia will start showing it 14th of May. For a complete list we recommend to check out IMDB.

More and more people ask us for help with table reservations, and a new thing is that a map showing the location of the restaurant is also included on the confirmation letter you receive from us!

Based on table reservations in April we can publish the following list:

3) Trofea Grill

It was a close race, and both Belcanto and Karpatia fought for the third place, but Trofea Grill still managed to grab hold of it! New list will be published in the start of June

Press release: (Eventim)
Legendary singer songwriter Leonard Cohen follows his critically acclaimed 2008 UK shows with a return date at the Liverpool Echo Arena on 14th July. Tickets will go on sale on Friday 27th March 2009 at 9am.

Leonard Cohen’s 2008 World Tour proved to be one the year’s hottest tickets. The sold out concerts wowed arenas, opera houses, festivals and Edinburgh Castle. The shows received rave reviews, bringing Leonard’s music to his devoted fans and hoards of converts, including a moving set at the this summer’s Glastonbury Festival.

About Leonard Cohen:
A celebrated singer/songwriter of the classic 1960s generation, Cohen is beyond comparison and a true original, providing some of music and literature’s most illuminating writing on love, sex, death and religion.

Albums like Songs Of Leonard Cohen (1967), Songs Of Love And Hate (1970) and I’m Your Man (1990), right up to 1992’s The Future and 2004’s Dear Heather are considered visionary classics. Uniquely for a revered musician, Cohen’s literary plaudits rival those for his music.

His songs have been famously covered by the great and the good, each version a fascinating attempt to move closer to Cohen’s enigmatic muse. From Judy Collins’ Suzanne to Jeff Buckley’s seminal rendition of Hallelujah, Cohen’s songs have travelled as far and wide as their author.
U2, REM, Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and the late Johnny Cash are among other famous devotees.
