Szentendre updates

SzentendreAccording to Caboodle.hu the Skanzen museum in Szentendre is to receive big funds from the European Regional Development Fund (2 Billion forints), and they will use it to develop the Open Air Museum (Skanzen). I was surprised to hear of the size of the area; it is five times bigger than the Margaret Island. For those who have walked there it is then possible to undestand that they are in great need of the Skanzen railway, to be built using the funds they will receive.

After the plan this will all be finished by the end of 20101.

If you are looking for a hotel in Szentendre, you can find it using our hotelsearch-tool.

More than 1000 people has seen our slideshow

On the 2 September we added a Budapest slideshow to Youtube, and since then more than 1000 people has seen the different pictures from Budapest to be found in the video. We are happy about that, and we are curious how long time that will pass by before the video will reach 2000 views.

If you have not seen the Budapest slideshow video yet, you can check it out here, or over at Youtube. Since then we have also added our Budapest Megamix, which currently contains 90 pictures.

Which shopping center has the best christmas decorations?

The 20th of November I wrote an article called “Christmas in WestEnd citycenter” and I also added some pictures to it. Yesterday I visited Arena Plaza, and made some pictures there as well (see below). Though Arena Plaza is the newest, WestEnd Citycenter is probably far more popular than Arena, much because of its great location (compared to Arena). But, since I first was there I thought I would compare which of them has the best christmas decorations inside. As can be seen on the pictures from Arena Plaza, they only had these round, colored orbs, while WestEnd has those colored orbs, but in addition those rectangular, golden stars… which I really like! So, based on this, my winner is WestEnd Citycenter…

If you disagree, or prefer the christmas decorations in another shoppingcenter, feel free to write a comment!

Hungarian food in McDonalds [Part II]

Some weeks ago we wrote about McDonalds serving Hungarian food in their restaurants in Budapest. Some days ago I visited McDonalds again, and though I ended up eating a BigMac Menu, I felt that I could try a Lángos (kind of Scone) for dessert. I am not a big fan of Lángos in general, but I thought I would give it a try anyway.

McDonalds BudapestLángos in McDonalds

The first message I got as I tried to order it was; they do not have more of the garlic and sourcream they normally use for the Lángos, so they told me that I could get something else instead. Having no clue, and asking what they recommended, I ended up with a package of ketchup together with my Lángos.

The Lángos did then not taste to bad, but I had a feeling that I was eating some kind of gum, quite hard to bite through and swallow. Compared to the Chicken Papricas burger from last time, this was a dream, quite similar to the level of the Golden Dumplings. The ketchup was not to bad together with it, and though I will not order Lángos in the future in McDonalds, this was not a too bad experience!

Starbucks, Costa Coffee and others to come to Budapest

Starbucks BudapestPages with news about Budapest have in the latest days written about Costa Coffee coming to Budapest. The Italian-started, UK-based Costa Coffee, will open their first coffee shop in Budapest, in Vaci Utca, in early December (which means now). Some pages reported that a Starbucks will be opened as well, though this is probably wrong… Starbucks will only arrive around march/april in 2009, hopefully. With both actors entering the Hungarian market we can be prepared for good coffee and war between the giants. For those who have visited our “Fastfood” page it is possible to see that we have been waiting for Starbucks for a long time, and hopefully we do not have to wait so much anymore.

Lately we mentioned that Cavalli has come to Budapest, next Monday Vertu is supposed to open, and in the near future the fashion shops Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani and menswear retailers Zilli and Z Zegna are supposed to come to the city as well. Sounds great, doesnt it? These shops will be located in the Fashion Street area and in the Andrassy Út which is getting more and more exclusive. Though, I was surprised today as I read in an article (read it here) that there are days when Louis Vuitton and Gucci does not sell anything at all in Budapest. But, I guess with their prices they do not need to seel to many articles a month to survive!

TicketPro Hall of Fame

I just dropped by the TicketPro page yesterday and noticed their Hall of Fame page, presenting their most popular events throughout history (or the pages with information about a concert/event that has been most visited). I realized the Depeche Mode is really popular, as it is on first (2009 concert), second (2006 June concert) and third place (2006 March concert). After this the list is as follows:
Popular concerts in Budapest
4. Guns ‘n’ Roses, 2006. 05. 31.
5. Rolling Stones, 2007. 07. 20.
6. George Michael, 2007. 05. 23.
7. Coldplay, 2008. 09. 23.
8. BODIES…, 2008. 05. 24.
9. Robbie Williams, 2006. 07. 19.

Some interesting articles

Budapest newsThere are several good pages, blogs and so concerning Budapest, and instead of copying their material we can just as well post a link. In the last weeks there has been some good and interesting articles and one of them was about the fact that the World’s largest subterranean thermal lake has been found in Budapest.. You can read that article at BudapestAgent, but not only that. You can also read about the Balaton Ring, the new MotoGP track to be built in Hungary.

For those who like exclusive shopping the Andrassy Ut has improved. Gucci opened not so long ago, and this week Cavalli also arrived (read the article at Caboodle) to Budapest.

In our oppinion we have written some good articles as well… not so much hot news like articles, but our article about Two Museums in one day and the Locspocs article can still be interesting.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the bad weather!

The Danube Bend, from on high

It is a great thing to travel by boat up along the Danube to visit Szentendre, Visegrad and Esztergom. But, not long ago as I was out flying I realized that our plane was flying along the Danube, passing over Szentendre, Visegrad and Esztergom. And I must admit, it was great. Unfortunately I could not really see Esztergom too well, but as I saw the Danube Bend by Visegrád, and the fortress on the hill of Visegrád my heart rejoiced. Of course, it is limited how well I could see them from the plane up in the air, but still… it was really great.

Some time ago I was thinking of how nice it would be once to rent a helicopter just to travel around making pictures of Budapest, and other similar cities, from the air… but that remains a nice dream as that would probably cost a fortune, much more than I have in my pockets! But, maybe sometime…

We earlier posted some pictures from the Danube Bend. To see them, go to Danube Bend pictures. The pictures from Ezstergom are not made by us, but the creator has written that they were free to use by anyone, so we did so!

A new word – Locspocs

Hungarian is a hard language to learn, and today I learned a new word: Locspocs. I had never heard it before, but as I met people who used it I asked what it meant, and got the following explanation: “When the snow is getting wet and it is melting, and it feels as if you are walking in water; then that condition of the snow can be called Locspocs”. It might be that some Hungarians reading this blog might disagree with this explanation, and if you feel that you have a better way to explain the word, please do so! Anyway, I learned a new word, and I am happy about that!

I post some picture to make this post a little bit more interesting!
