Strike updates Wednesday 17. December

The trains are still standing in the nation, which means people from throughout the nations have problems reaching the other cities in the nation. Though the security people at the airport is still striking, the airport has received help from abroad, and therefore they are able to keep the tempo up, and all plains should arrive and depart on time.

Yesterday we wrote that it will probably be a strike tomorrow within the public transportation company in Budapest. The good news is that though they will probably strike, it will only influence the buses, which means that trams and the metro will run as normal!

That was it for today! 🙂

Strike updates Tuesday 16. December

Bus nr. 109Yesterday we reported that the trains were standing still and that the strike at the airport still influenced the air traffic. Today Budapest Airport Zrt. wrote at their webpage that all traffic went as planned this morning, and that there are only short lines by the security checks. They hope that they will be able to keep it this way throughout the entire day.

On the trainstations most trains are standing, also international trains, and buses are packed up throughout the nations. The news reports of people who are not able to go to work, missing out their exams and the consequences is quite big for the Hungarians.

NEW STRIKE COMING UP
Yesterday the news also arrived that BKV (the company running the public transport in Budapest) will organize a strike this Thursday (18 December) from 04.30 until 13:00.

Those were the striking news for today!

Strike updates from Budapest

Today we do not only provide information on the airport strike in Budapest, but we can also tell you that the trains in Hungary is currently standing still. This means that if you are planing to travel by train in Hungary today, you should probably reconsider that, and rather travel by bus.

At Ferihegy airport all traffic is still running from Ferihegy 2, but they have now begun to use both Terminal 2A and 2B. Airtraffic to Budapest goes as normal, but the planes departing from Budapest is usually between 30-60 minutes late, and there are long lines before security check-in.

The airport recommends all passengers to arrive 3 hours before departure.

Strike at Ferihegy

Strike at Ferihegy AirportFor more updates, check latest news from the blog on our frontpage

December 11 update:
The strike at the airport is still lasting. Yesterday most flights arrived and departed from Budapest, but some flights were cancelled. The same will probably be the situation today. Prepare for delays.

An important difference is that all flights today will arrive and depart from Ferihegy 2, also those flights normally using Ferihegy Terminal 1.

——————————————–

BUDAPEST, 9 December 2008 – The Trade Union of Airport Employees and Service Providers (RDSZSZ) and the United Aeronautical Trade Union (LESZ) declared a general strike for an indefinite period at Ferihegy as of 6 .a.m. on Wednesday 10 December 2008.

It is not yet known which departments and how many employees will join the work stoppage. Airport Fuel Supply Ltd. (RÜK Kft.) will probably also join the strike, so Budapest Airport advised airlines to refuel at other airports.

Delays to flights and the cancellation of some flights is expected during the work stoppage.

Budapest Airport is taking every effort to minimize inconvenience for its passengers, and to keep them well informed about developments.

BA is requesting passengers to contact their airline for more information about their flights. Additional information is available on our website.

Budapest Airport kindly requests understanding and patience from passengers.

How to get from Ferihegy to the city?

Mongol in Hungary

Genghis Khan BudapestSpeaking of mongols in Hungary, most people start thinking about 1241 when the Mongols invaded Hungary and killed big parts of the population (read History of Hungary), but last week another mongol entered Hungary; the film called “The Mongol.” It deals with the Mongol of all Mongols, Genghis Khan!

For those who plan seeing the film to learn more about what happened in Hungary and in other nations as the Mongolians invaded them and continued on, they might be disappointed. The reason? Many people fail to read the undertitle of the film, “The rise of Genghis Khan”. But, knowing that we can understand that the film deals with the childhood of Genghis Khan and the background for the empire to be built. It speaks of how the tribes where united under one flag. And what comes after that?

We do not know yet, but as far as I am informed they are planning to make two more films about the Mongol, so in those we might get the historical parts involving Hungary as well!

Budapest Christmas Market pictures

Yet another we have been out with our camera making some pictures from the Christmas markets in Budapest. This time we not only visited the Vörösmarty Square, but also the Jokai Tér/Liszt Ferenc Tér by Oktogon. The weather forecasts tell us that there might be some snow later this week, and that it will be quite a lot colder than in the previous week, so be aware!

Whats up with James Bond?

Quantum of Solace BudapestSome weeks ago I mentioned in the blog that James Bond was going to have its premier in the cinemas of Budapest. Yesterday I was able to see the film myself, and I watched it with very low expectations. The reason was that I really did not like Casino Royale, and Daniel Craig was a way too brutal James Bond for me.

But, somehow the Quantum of Solace was much better than Quantum of Solace, at least in my oppinion. He is still quite brutal, but as I watched it, I still enjoyed this film much more than Casino Royale. It must be said that it is starting to look much more like a pure action film than a James Bond, since Q is not in the film, he is not introducing himself as “Bond, James Bond”, and it is no more “Shaken, not stirred”. But as an actionfilm I enjoyed the 1 hour and 40 minutes the film lasted!
