Heavy snow expected

Last Saturday Ferihegy Airport had to be closed down for some hours due to heavy snow and bad weather in Budapest. Starting from this evening heavy snow and cold weather is again expected in Budapest and all of Hungary, so it might be that things will be delayed tomorrow. The weather is expected to last until Sunday evening.

In addition there will probably be lots of snow everywhere, so tomorrow might be a day to spend in a day spa or somewhere else.

Enjoy life and enjoy Budapest in any case!

From Degas to Picasso: Museum of Fine Arts

If you would like to see masterpieces from French painters painted between the middle of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century, you better head towards the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest between January 28 and April 25. During that period there will be a temporary exhibition there presenting more than 50 paintings from the given period. All the paintings are borrowed from the Puskin Museum in Moscow for this exhibition.

Among the paintings you can see masterpieces made by Courbet, Corot, Degas, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso.

Green Day to Sziget Festival?

Green Day

Before you start rejoicing notice the questionmark in the title. This is not at all sure, but I just noticed someone who requested on the official Sziget page that Green Day should come to Sziget and today as I worked with the page presenting some concerts in cities near Budapest I noticed that Green Day will perform in June 2010. Of course that does not mean anything at all where Green Day will perform two months before the Sziget Festival in 2010, but at least it is possible to hope.

So this text is not based on any real facts or nothing, but it might only represent a hope from thousands of Hungarian fans that Green Day may return to Budapest and to the Sziget Festival in 2010.

Transportation strike is over

And then the public transportation strike in Budapest was over, for this time. The buses are polluting the city again, the trams are following their normal schedules and the people of Budapest can easier get to their jobs than last week. Well, if the buses are able to drive. It has been snowing and it is quite cold, so often that causes great problems for the drivers and the buses!

At least it is over! So that was it for this time. There is a small strike on the Ferihegy Airport as well, but that is not expected to cause any further delays!

Strike still going strong

The public transportation strike which we have written about several times already is still going strong and most buses, trams and trolley buses in the capital of Hungary are still standing still. Some of them are going and you can read more about that in our former post.

I guess the taxi companies enjoy the strike as they probably have much more to do than under normal circumstances, but it would be nice if they could finish this strike within shortly.

One addition to the strike is the fact that MAV (train company) has joined into the strike and especially in the early morning many trains stand still and do not transport passengers!
