Not long ago we got to enjoy an evening at Karpátia in Budapest, and we really felt good the time we spent there. Since the gipsy music starts around 18.00 every evening we went there 18.00 and got a table where we could enjoy the music, but still relax and not be disturbed by it.
Smoked farm ham with spicy cream cheese
As a starter we ate a “Hungarian appetiser platter with “mangalica” sausage and salami, paprika-flavoured ewe-cheese and vegetables” and a “Smoked farm ham with spicy cream cheese, blue grape jam and fresh baguette”. The portions were just perfect, and my wife commented that if she were at home she would stop eating after that. But, since we were out eating we did not stop after the starter.
After the good start we continued towards the main course with some real Hungarian meals; “Mangalica” pork medallions with spicy fresh “lecsó” and potato chips” and the second meal was “Pörkölt appetiser from veal, beef and chicken, with butter gnocchi”. I have never tasted three different Pörkölts at the same plate, but this was an easy way to find out which one is your own personal favorite. Both courses tasted great and with the starter already relaxing in our stomachs we started to feel very full.
Blackberry-yogurt cake
But, a good dinner needs to be finished with a good dessert. That is why we ended up ordering a “Piquant sour cherry strudel with cinnamon mousse” and a “Blackberry-yogurt cake topped with bitter and white chocolate”. The strudel tasted as it should, the Blackberry yogurt cake was fine (nothing more), but by that time I felt so full that it didn’t really matter.
After a couple of hours we then headed home, completely satisfied and uncomfortable full!
It must be said that Karpátia is not the cheapest restaurant in Budapest, and the complete price of what we ate had a total price of around 18,000 Forint (appx. 65 Euro). But it was a nice experience, the music was comfortable and we got to taste nice Hungarian specialities! So a visit to Karpátia can be recommend for those who want a nice Hungarian experience, in a traditional environment and at a central location.
The most famous Christmas Market in Budapest is located at the Vörösmarty Square located in the end of the Vaci Street (shopping street of Budapest). Some other markets can be found as well, and one of them is located at the Blaha Lujza Square. It is not big, but some stuff can still be found there, and it is possible to buy a christmas tree there as well, if you’d like! Below you can see some pictures from the Christmas Market at Blaha Lujza Square!
This Saturday Hungarians can enjoy the final in Csillag Születik, the Hungarian version of “Britain’s Got Talent”. I wrote an article some weeks ago were I made a guess that maybe André Vásáry were to win the competition. I am not so sure anymore as the competition is hard and everyone qualified for the final seems to have a chance. Last Saturday he sang “Barcelona” together with Tabáni István, and it sounded interesting and wonderful at the same time. My guess is that one of them will win, but it might be that the self-trained dancer Csikó Szabolcs will make the battle hard. The fourth competitor McDC is cool to listen to, but I got a feeling he will not win. Below you can see Tabáni István and Vásáry André singing the Barcelona song together. Hear, see and enjoy!

BBS was a filmstudio producing more than 511 films in less than 50 years. It was very famous until the 1990s, but since then it has dissapeard. This exhibition will try to enlighten the younger generation so they will know more about what was before them. In the words of the organizers: “This ambitious exhibition on the past fifty years of the BBS would help younger generations to have a better understanding of the age and the context, in which these films were made, and would also offer those contemporaries who are familiar with the BBS an opportunity to re-interpret the Studio’s work.” The exhibition will be held in the Art Hall located by the Heroes Square.

We are arranging trips to Vienna regularly and below you can see some pictures from the traditional Christmas Market at the Town Hall square in Vienna (Rathausplatz). It is very special to walk around in the streets of Vienna before Christmas, as the streets are packed with tourists, and a high percentage comes from Hungary. Anyway, enjoy the pictures, and for more information about the Christmas Market in Vienna take a look at our former articles and pictures below.
