Events and other information

Normally I am playing football every Tuesday evening. But, this autumn will not be to active because of Debrecen who qualified for the Champions League. Especially when Debrecen is playing at the Puskás Ferenc Stadium everyone is either home watching the match in television, or at the stadium watching it there.

Concerts near Budapest

But, we are also regularly updating our page with information about concerts happening near Budapest. In the start of 2010 Europe will be out touring several cities, and so will Pat Metheny. ABBA – The Show is out on the track again, and of course Depeche Mode. So there are loads of excuses to leave Budapest (at least if you do not visit the concerts as these artists perform in Budapest).

For Hungarian who dont want to leave Hungary it is also possible to check out the Harlem Gospel Singers concert in Szeged taking place December 28. So look around and hopefully you will find some useful information around on our pages.

Stratovarius Budapest 2010

Hungarians like metal, call it black, heavy, power or death metal. Scandinavians are good at producing these kind of bands, so that is why it always turns out to be a popular event when such a band comes to Budapest. In January 2010 Stratovarius from Finland will come to Petőfi Csarnok to play. Stratovarius has sold more than 2,5 million records worldwide since they were formed in 1984.

Parliament finally finished

I didnt even realize that the work with the Hungarian Parliament had lasted for so long, but last week I read that the last 20 years there has been continous work on the Hungarian Parliament, or the side of the Parliament looking towards the Danube. So, I guess we all got used to the workers and the fact that we never could see the Parliament at its best… But, now it is done (the side looking towards the Danube), and hopefully it will stay nice and clean for many, many years.

To see it the best way you should go to the Batthyány Square or you can go up to the Fishermens Bastion (though the view is nicer from Batthyány Square)!

Chain Bridge Budapest
Chain Bridge Budapest

We love Budapest by night, and below you can see some pictures taken during an evening trip on the Danube with dinner and live gipsy music. The pictures only show Budapest, but the trip and the food was great as well. More information can be found on our Danube page.

As the autumn has come it is getting dark early in Budapest, so boat trips starting at 19.00 is an ideal timing for a good and nice, and maybe even romantic Danube trip in the dark.

Did you by the way know that Danube is the longest river in the European Union, and the second longest in Europe after the river Volga?

Air concert in Budapest

Air Budapest

The french music duo Air is coming to Budapest and they will perform there 13. December 2009. The concert will be held in Petőfi Csarnok, and the concert starts at 20:00. It seems to be quite popular, but tickets can be bought from the address below.

Press release:
More apt to cite stately rock paragons Burt Bacharach and Brian Wilson as
their inspirations than Derrick May or Aphex Twin, the French duo Air gained inclusion into the late-’90s electronica surge due chiefly to the labels
their recordings appeared on, not the actual music they produced.
Their sound, a variant of the classic disco sound coaxed into a relaxing
Prozac vision of the late ’70s, looked back to a variety of phenomena from
the period synthesizer maestros Tomita, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Vangelis,
new wave music of the nonspiky variety, and obscure Italian film
soundtracks. Despite gaining quick entrance into the dance community
(through releases for Source and Mo’ Wax), Air’s 1998 debut album, Moon
Safari, charted a light well, airy course along soundscapes composed
with melody lines by Moog and Rhodes, not Roland and Yamaha. The presence of several female vocalists, an equipment list whose number of pieces stretched into the dozens, and a baroque tuba solo on one track all of this conspired to make Air more of a happening in the living room than the dancefloor.

Concerts and events in Budapest

Concerts in Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Zagreb and more

We already have a page made to inform our visitors about events taking place in cities near Budapest. Now we have updated it, made it easier to use and it has a new design. It even has a search motor so you are able to search for your favorite artist to see if he is performing nearby Budapest while you are in town.Concerts in Vienna

Why have we made this page? Because it is so easy to travel from Budapest to Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Zagreb, Munich etc… that it is easy to take a day trip even to some of this place (I admit, Munich is quite far away), but except from that all the other cities can quite easily be reached if you want to go to a concert in one of the cities.

For example Prague, the capital of Czech Republic can be reached within six hours. If I would first go there to a concert, I would probably look around as well (considering the fact that the city is beautiful), but it can quite easily be reached using the highways.

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and only 2 hours from Budapest. Not so much of a tourist attraction city, but some hours can easily be spent in this, and maybe you could even grab some food in the “UFO” above the bridge?

Vienna is 2 1/2 hour from Budapest, and the capital of Austria. Known for its classical concerts, nice cakes and good coffee this is absolutely a great place for a day trip from Budapest, and a nice concert. This autumn you can for example enjoy both Green Day and Bryan Adams in Vienna (and they are not coming to Budapest).

Zagreb is only 3 1/2 hour away from Budapest, and you have nice highway taking you all the way there. U2 were performing there earlier this summer, and though no hotshots are expected to perform there this autumn, it should still be taken into consideration if you want to go for a day trip away from Budapest.

Depeche Mode is always a hotshot wherever they go, and if you are not planning to go to their Budapest concert, you might concert going to one of their concerts in Prague, Vienna, Munich or Zagreb. Backstreet Boys is also out touring this fall, so check it all out on our list of concerts near Budapest.
