Turner and Italy: Museum of Fine Arts

Turner and Italy - Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts hosts an exhibition called Turner and Italy presenting Turners work in eight parts, ordered chronologically. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851) was especially known for his landscape paintings, and at the temporary exhibition you can see more than 80 paintings painted my Turner himself.

The exhibition opened July 15 and will be in the Museum of Fine Arts until October 25, 2009 – which means that there is not much time left for those still interested in visiting the exhibition. The full price ticket for the Turner and Italy exhibition is 2600 Forint. The full price for the permanent exhibition is 1400 Forint.

More about Joseph Mallord William Turner:
Joseph Mallord William Turner was one of the most significant landscape painters of the 19th century and indeed perhaps in the entire history of art. His hugely extensive oeuvre is characterised by thematic diversity and endless technical innovation. He painted true-to-life city- and landscapes – he was especially fond of depictions of the sea -, historical and mythological scenes, contemporary events, but his imagination was also inspired by literature.

Most popular restaurants in September

Sir Lancelot
Sir Lancelot

Based on the amount of table reservations made in September we have made our own unofficial “Most popular restaurants in September” statistic. This does not say anything about the actual popularity of the given restaurant based on amount of visitors, but it gives a little feeling where our visitors like to go eating in Budapest.

Most popular Budapest restaurants in September
1. Sir Lancelot
2. Trófea Grill
3. Mátyás Pince

Most people who have seen our former statistics will realize that this is absolutely not something new and revolutionary result. Sir Lancelot is almost always ending up on first place, Trófea ends up on the second place, and then Mátyás Pince on the third place. The third place is normally where the battle stands, and both Karpatia and Pampas Steakhouse were close in September, but none of them managed to sneak in before Mátyás Pince.

EDDA concert in Budapest

EDDA, a Hungarian metal band, will perform in Petőfi Csarnok October 10, 2009. They have released tons of albums and videos since then, but they have never fought their way into my heart, at least not yet! But, if you are interested, grab hold of some tickets and listen to EDDA as they will perform in Petőfi Csarnok in Budapest October 10. The concert starts at 19:00.

Vibria Saturday in the National Museum

Hungarian National Museum - Vibria Saturdays
Hungarian National Museum - Vibria Saturdays

We have just added the Hungarian National Museum to our Museum guide, and it was right on time… This Saturday they will arrange what they call Vibria Saturday (the call it Vibria Saturdays – so it might be this will become a Saturday habit in the National Museum). So what is Vibria Saturday? The museum will be open between 10.00 and 22.00 and they will have reduced entrance fees!

This coming Saturday (October 3rd) they will have a special guided tour in the exhibition entitled “Princessses from Afar- Catalonia and Hungary in the Middle ages”. This special guided tour will be held 16.00 in Spanish and 17.00 in English. To participate be in the entrance hall of the Hungarian National Museum at the given time.

If it sounds interesting, you know where to go! Personally I would rather drop by Pampas Steakhouse just a few blocks away, but nothing sais that you cannot do both!

Pictures taken from Gellert Hill (by night)

Earlier this week we had a guided tour with a nice group of dutch people, and we reached the Gellert Hill by around 6.30. It was still quite bright, and no lights were turned on in Budapest. But then, around 6.50 the city turned into another one, almost like magic! The lights were turned on, and Budapest as we all love it became a reality. Below you can see some of the pictures we made.

Debrecen defeated by French giants

Yesterday Debrecen played their first Champions League match in Hungary. Two weeks ago they lost 1-0 against Liverpool at Anfield Road, so hope existed that after their “good” result in Liverpool, they might be able to catch a point or three against Lyon at Puskas Ferenc Stadium.

But as many have pointed out; Lyon is a very good team, and maybe even better than Liverpool. And every year Lyon beats big team; both home and away. And so it turned out this year as well that Lyon got a great victory on foreign ground.

The final result of the Champions League match was 4-0, and they deserved the win. But, I must admit that Debrecen did a good job as well, and the Puskas Ferenc Stadium was packed with people. And even though Debrecen lost 4-0 the fans shouted and screamed and applauded the Debrecen guys, so I guess the hungarians are just happy to have a team in the Champions League. And if they later should manage to shoot a goal, and maybe even grab a point… it might be that Christmas will come early to Hungary this year!

Next matches in Budapest:
October 20 against Fiorentina
November 24 against Liverpool

Airport transfers in Budapest

Airport transfer Budapest
Airport transfer Budapest

More and more people contact us for information and help with arranging airport transfers in Budapest. It is always useful to have someone waiting for you in the arrival hall as you arrive to a new city, and that is why we have made this offer for our visitors. And, not only is it practical – it is also cheap. Compared to many other sites offering airport transfers we are much cheaper, and we have received lots of good feedback on our services so far.

Whether you arrive to Ferihegy 1 or Ferihegy 2A or 2B we can offer the same prices and good service. It is also very popular with the offer of combining it with a guided tour, especially if you arrive early in the day. Why? Because you are not allowed to check into your hotel that early, so then you can join us directly on a guided tour where you will be served some drinks and some snacks – and after 2 1/2 hour you will be dropped of safely by your hotel, ready for check-in – and hopefully allowed to check-in as well!

Slideshow seen by more than 5000 people

Our slideshow with pictures from Budapest has now been seen by more than 5000 people. I must admit that we have much better pictures available now, so we could probably make a much better slideshow with the pictures available now… but this has become such a traditional slideshow, so we decide to let it stay!

But, for those who want more pictures, we recommend our Pictures page.
