Matthias church exhibition

There will be a major exhibition on the history of the Matthias Church in Budapest in Budapest available until October 18th. The exhibition will take place in the Historical museum and in the Matthias church.

The Matthias Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the heart of the city in Buda’s Castle district right in front of the famous Fisherman’s Bastion. Matthias Church has a long history which dates back to the 13th century. During the centuries the church had a central role not only in the every day life of Buda but it gave home to the coronation of the Hungarian kings as well. At the exhibition visitors will have the chance to discover the rich history of the Matthias Church through the several exhibited objects, such as the furnitures, tools and clothes that were used in the Hungarian medieval era and visitors can also have a closer look on the secular importance of the church.

The exhibition on the history of Hungary and the Matthias Church will take place at the Matthias Church and the Budapest Historical Museum in Budapest which will be open until the 18th October 2015.

Gourmet Festival in Budapest in 2015

In May 2015 the Gourmet Festival will be held again in Budapest. The Gourmet Festival is a gastronomical event which takes place every year in Budapest since 2007 and the festival shows the best food and drinks of the exhibitors / restaurants.

At the Gourmet Festival visitors can choose from more than 100 restaurants including Borkonyha which is a French styled bistro which offers the best Hungarian dishes and has also a wide selection of wines, Cake Shop which sells the best handmade sweets, desserts, creams, pies and cakes in Budapest, DiVino Wine Bar which is one of the most popular places in Budapest which presents a wide selection of the best products of the young wine maker generations and Gerbeaud Coffeehouse which is definitely one of the most famous sweet spot in the centre of the city, Gerbeaud offers the most delicious traditional cakes. Unfortunately the programs of the Gourmet Festival 2015 have not been announced yet.

The Gourmet Festival will take place from the 21st May 2015 to 24th May 2015 at Millenáris Park in the heart of Budapest. Tickets for the festival are already available.

Pálinka Festival in Budapest 2015

In the spring of 2015 Budapest will give home to one of the most popular gastronomical festival the Pálinka Fesztivál.

The annual Pálinka Festival this year will open its gates again in the city on a larger area with even more exhibitors and products to show. Pálinka is a typical Eastern European beverage, a fruit brandy which is popular mostly in Hungary, Romania, Austria and in Slovakia. It can be made of any local fruit but the most common ones are plum, pear, cherry, apple and apricot. This year apple stands in the focus of the festival which means visitors will have the chance to try the best home made apple pálinkas and there will be also delicious dishes related to apple as well as other apple beverages. Apart from these at the festival visitors can enjoy the concerts of the various street musicians and colourful jazz shows as well.

Dunai Regatta 2015

The Dunai Regatta, which is one of the most awaited events in Hungary, will take place again in Budapest in the spring of 2015.

Dunai Regatta is an international sport event which is also one of the largest sport and cultural event in Hungary. At the sport event 12 Hungarian university (AUB, BCE, BGF, BME, ELTE, TF, SZTE etc.) and two American university (Harvard and Princeton) will participate. This will be the third time the various teams will compete with each other in different water sports on the Danube. Like in every year the race will lead through the Danube’s most beautiful spots in the city from the Parliament through Vigadó tér to the main building of the Budapest Technical University. Apart from the race the Dunai Regatta offers different sport programs for all the visitors in which they can try countless sports such as yoga, street ball, table tennis, badminton and extreme sports like slack line and so on.
Dunai Regatta will be held in Budapest on Saturday on the 25th April in 2015, the event starts at 13.00 and ends at 03.00 on the next day.

Bocuse d’Or Budapest 2016

The Bocuse d’Or is a biennial world chef championship which was named after the chef Paul Bocuse and it is definitely one of the most prestigious cooking competition world wide. In 2016 the final will be arranged in Budapest!

Every two years the finals of the Bocuse d’Or contest is held in Lyon, France. After a lot of preparations and hard work 24 of the most promising chefs of the world get together for a two day long competition to show their talents to win the greatest gastronomy trophy of the world.

At the Bocuse d’Or European Final in Budapest the participants have to prepare one meat and one fish dish in 5 hours and 35 minutes. Hungary first took part in the event in 2013 in which Szèl Tamás got 10th place and last year Molnár Gábor got 13th place.

The Bocuse d’Or European Final in Budapest will be on the 10th and 11th May in 2016. Don’t miss out on one of the most famous and interesting culinary event of the world which will be held in Budapest, Hungexpo in 2016.

Violetta Budapest 2015

Good news for the Violetta lovers; the Violetta Live Concert will also be shown in Budapest in 2015.

Violetta is a kids oriented television program on Disney Channel and all the main characters of the Disney television series will be in the live show in Budapest. The main characters in the series are Martina Stoessel as Violetta Castillo who has a bright and joyful personality and also has a great voice, Pablo Espinosa as Tomàs Heredia who is an attractive, confident but simple guy in the series, Jorge Blanco as León who is a little bit arrogant but despite this he has a warm and good heart, Mercedes Lambre as Ludmila Ferro who is the diva of the group and Clara Alonso as Àngeles who is really charismatic and a cheerful person to be with. The television series shows the life of the teenage Martina Stoessel.

Martina and her friends will give the best family friendly show in Budapest and they will also perform all the hit songs of the three seasons.

The Violetta Live Concert will be held in Budapest on the 29th August in 2015. The concert will take place at Papp László Sportarèna. Tickets for the show are already available.

Hungarian Grand Prix 2015

The Formula 1 World Championship is back again and one of its stop will be Hungary. This is the 66th time that the world famous Formula 1 World Championship is held and Formula 1 is one of the oldest racing competition which was first held in 1913.

At the world championship 10 teams and 20 drivers participate and the drivers have to compete on each of the 19 Grand Prixes. The 66th Formula 1 World Championship started on the 15th March 2015 in Australia and the competition will end on the 29th November 2015 in Abu Dhabi and one of its stop will be in Hungary. All together 19 countries will give home to the 66th Formula 1 World Championship. The defending Driver’s Champion this year is Lewis Hamilton. The Hungarian Grand Prix will be the 10th stop of the Formula 1 World Championship in 2015 which is annually held since 1986.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place in Mogyoród near to Budapest at the Hungaroring on the 26th July in 2015. Tickets for the Formula 1 World Championship are already available.

Sziget Fesztival line up in 2015

A new era has started with shops closed on Sundays!

For a long time people in Hungary have enjoyed the liberty to go shopping whatever they want to, also on Sundays. That is why even the Austrians would cross the borders and come to Hungary on Sundays to go shopping, while all shops in Vienna and elsewhere in Austria are closed on Sundays. But, a new era has started in Hungary, because now shops will stay closed on Sundays here as well!

This sounds terrifying to many, both locals and tourists. In other words, if you plan on visit a shopping mall on Sundays in Budapest you will find mostly everything to be closed, except from some coffee houses and cinemas. The only place you can actually go shopping as of know is in the shopping street of Budapest, where shops are supposed to be allowed to keep open because it is a World Heritage site, and there are some exceptions if the actual owner of the shop actually works in the shop on that day.

The first Sunday where this will actually be taken into action is this upcoming Sunday (March 22nd). If you plan on doing a trip to Szentendre this will probably be causing no problems, because shops there will stay open as in most cases the actual owners actually work in their own shops, and because to keep closed on Sundays would make them loose so much money, most owners will actually do the work themselves, if that is what it takes to be allowed to open their small and cute shops!

So be aware of this when you come to do shopping in Budapest!

This is the day! 2015

The This is the day! is a christian festival which will be held again in Budapest in 2015 and it is one of the most prestigious and most popular christian festivals in Hungary.

Every single believer and non believer are welcomed for this special day to celebrate God. Like in every year in 2015 the festival gives home to some special programs and concerts. The exact programs and concerts for This is the day! are not confirmed yet what we already know that Rend Collective will be on stage on this special day and everyone who buys a ticket for the festival gets a free DVD of the 2014 event. The DVD of 2014 was made by eight HD cameras and it also contains interviews of last year’s roadshow, photos of the event and backstage videos as well.

Tickets for This is the day! are already available, one ticket costs 2240 HUF which includes the free DVD of 2014. If you buy 5 tickets you get one for free, if you buy 10 then you get three more for free and if you buy 15 tickets then you get five more for free. The This is the day! will be held on 30th May in 2015 and the event will take place at the Budapest Sportarèna in Budapest.
