We just got rid of more than 500 broken links

For a long time we have known the fact that there are quite a lot of broken links (links not working) in our Budapest Guide. Unfortunately we did not know how to fix these in an easy way, until we recently got a good advice.

no more broken links in the Budapest GuideThe result was that we installed a little plugin at our webpage which checked all links existing in the Budapest Guide. It had to check more than 4000 links (both internal and external links) and the result that showed up was more than 500 links that did not work. Those numbers are not as bad as they sound, because most links still worked, but back in the period before 2009 we used Blogger to post blog posts in the Budapest Guide. Then we changed everything and started to use WordPress instead, and all former Blogger posts and links and pictures went crazy during the export, and that left lots of broken links and images not working behind. Therefore most of the links which we had to fix were from this period.

The article with information about how to find broken links can be found here.

Now everything should be working
Now a few days later we have fixed all links and according to the statistics there should be no broken links at all in the Budapest Guide at the moment. That should make the site better to use for you as visitors and you will not have to experience high blood pressure as you believe you found what you have been looking for for a long time, only to find a broken link. That is so annoying!

Enjoy the Budapest Guide and all the information in the guide about attractions, museums, restaurants, hotels and other cool stuff in Budapest.

We have also updated the Budapest Guides in all the other languages using this plugin, so hopefully you should find all the other guides free from broken links as well!

Museum of Fine Arts: The way you live / Honoré Daumier (1808-1879)

If you visit the Museum of Fine Arts before 7 April, you can in addition to the permanent exhibitions see the Honoré Daumier temporary exhibition with the artist’s graphic collections. The title of the exhibition is: “The way you live.”

Honore DaumierThe museum’s collection includes Daumier earliest pages, political cartoons from the 1830s, which were made for Charles Philipon’s order, and they were published in two sarcastic newspapers, the La Carucature and the Le Charivari. The main target was the “pear-head” Louise Philippe citizen king, but the artist made ridicule about the politicians and delegates who served the king. His mostly known cartoons were made to protect the freedom of press and speech. His older works can be seen too, which shows the caricature of citizen’s weekdays and habits in Paris. The exhibition shows other artists’ works (Beaumont, Cham, Gavarni, Canzi) on 170 pages who were inspired by Daumier.

Daumier was one of the most excellent artists of his time, who had good monitoring capabilities, which helped him to draw the perfect French lowbrow with all the mistakes and oddities. He characterized people in a short and sharp way. He saw the funny side of everything what surrounded him, and his drawings are the masterpieces of the characterizations of humans. The success came late for him, but he was already well-known before his death, and people loved his works, not just his colleagues, but costumers too.

If you are a fan of fine art or interested in the French humor from the 19th century, don’t miss this exhibition in the Museum of Fine Arts.

T-Bone steak at home in Budapest

Last week I saw some articles on the web about Rob Longworth, a Canadian expat who has lived in Budapest since 1990 and who has a long experience in the restaurant and food business. Recently he opened a website named primecuts.hu and from that website you can order meat from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada and the US.

Since Hungary has lots of poultry and pork Rob Longworth does not offer such meat on the webpage, but if you are interested in beef or lamb, then this might be interesting. The lack of consistency in the quality of Hungarian beef was the main reason for creating the webpage, and now you can get top quality t-bone steaks and other meet delivered at your door in Budapest.

Personally I do like meat and I am very happy if I get a good steak, but I am not so much of a judge to say whether a piece of meat is bad, middle class or super. Anyway I contacted Rob and ordered a large piece of Eye of Rump Beef Roast and a USDA T-Bone Steak. I was lucky because he had something ready to deliver, so within a few days I got the meat delivered and then it was time for a T-Bone steak at home in Budapest. The Eye of Rump Beef Roast was a large piece of meat so I thawed it, cut parts of it into small steaks and the rest I roasted. Since I am not at all a master of this I did not really know what to expect, but I can say that I was very satisfied with both the T-Bone steak, the Eye of Rump steak and as I roasted the other parts of the beef it was very tasty and nice.

I received some advices from some friends of mine who are meat lovers with experience on the subject of steaks and preparing meat, so maybe that helped me out, but at least I can say that I had some really nice meat for both lunch and dinner the last days and I enjoyed it a lot (and so did my family).

If you know more about meat than I do and would like to have some premium quality delivered at your door in Budapest, then head over to Prime Cuts and place your order today!
